January 2024 should see the arrival of an addendum to the ISO 9001 standard, in the form of a free access document. A full revision of ISO 9001:2015 should happen in 2025.
The said addendum is already the subject of criticisms due to the way in which the decision was taken, and the political and personal motivations which seem to motivate it, but that is another subject.
So what does it change ?
This addendum takes into account the notion of climate change, and concerns the clauses 4.1 and 4.2, i.e. the understanding of the organization and its context, as well as the needs and expectations of stakeholders. Non-prescriptive, these changes only require to take into account global warming as a potential problem or as a subject of possible requirements of said stakeholders.
Conclusion: to date and in the current state of knowledge regarding this addendum, no drastic change for the certified organizations or for those wishing to be, but an obvious trend towards the need to add an environmental dimension in the quality approach of any organization.
